Pound Sterling to Ghanaian Cedi

The British pound or pound sterling (symbol: £, code: GBP, number: 826) is the official currency of Great Britain also used in the British Crown dependencies of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. Also in circulation on the Island of St. Helena, the Island of Ascension, Tristan da Cugna Island, the Falklands and in Gibraltar.

One pound is subdivided into one hundred pence. The abbreviation UKL - United Kingdom Libra is also sometimes used. The name derives from antique silver coins. However, there are other versions of the origin of the concept of "sterling”.

The Ghanaian cedi (sign GH₵, code GHS) is the currency used in circulation in Ghana. The currency is not used outside the country. The Ghanaian cedi uses pesewa as change.

One cedi equals 100 pesewas. In 1965, the cedi became the sole currency in the country. Before that, Ghana had changed its currency several times. Since the country was a British colony, its territory allowed pounds sterling and later on, it was replaced with the West African pound. Afterwards, the Ghanaian pound took its place. All notes, except 50 cedi, depict portraits of the state’s politicians. The 50-cedi banknote portrays the cocoa fruit.
