Azerbaijan Manat to Afghan afghani

The Azerbaijani manat (sign ₼, code AZN) is the currency that operates within Azerbaijan. Manat can be subdivided into qapik. AZN equals 100 qapik, at the moment, there are coins worth 1 qapik used in circulation.

The Azerbaijani manat has been adopted as the national currency in 1992 after the dissolution of the USSR replacing the Soviet ruble. Many people notice that the national currency of Azerbaijan resembles euro. The Australian designer Robert Kalina, who has also participated in creating euro, took part in designing the notes.

Afghani (sign ؋, code AFN) is the currency of Afghanistan which is not used for payment in other countries. One afghani equals 100 pul coins. Afghani has been issued since 1926.

Originally, coins made only out of silver were used on the territory of the Islamic state. First notes were printed in 1935. The Afghan rupee had been used hand in hand with afghani until 1978. Up until 2002, there had been different types of afghani used in the country and issued by different military and political organizations: “davlati” and “dostumi”, but the new leader, Hamid Karzai, reformed the currency leaving only one type. Banknotes had architectural monuments, key industries and infrastructure depicted on them.
