Hong Kong Dollar to Afghan afghani

The Hong Kong dollar (symbol: HK$, codes: HKD and 344) is the official currency of Hong Kong since 1934. It is subdivided into 100 cents. Currently, there are several generations of banknotes with denominations ranging from 10 to 1000 dollars, all of them being legal tenders.

In Hong Kong, local money is referred to as "man”, derived from the English word “money” and this is explained by strong influence of American culture. Although cent coins physically exist, hou- one tenth of a dollar is a subunit for accounting.

Afghani (sign ؋, code AFN) is the currency of Afghanistan which is not used for payment in other countries. One afghani equals 100 pul coins. Afghani has been issued since 1926.

Originally, coins made only out of silver were used on the territory of the Islamic state. First notes were printed in 1935. The Afghan rupee had been used hand in hand with afghani until 1978. Up until 2002, there had been different types of afghani used in the country and issued by different military and political organizations: “davlati” and “dostumi”, but the new leader, Hamid Karzai, reformed the currency leaving only one type. Banknotes had architectural monuments, key industries and infrastructure depicted on them.
