Bulgarian Lev to Ghanaian Cedi

The Bulgarian lev (international symbol: BNG, code: 975) is the national currency of Bulgaria. The lev is divided into 100 stotinki. Since 2002 the lev has been pegged to the euro at an exchange rate of 1.

95 lev for 1 euro. Bulgaria has not become part of the Eurozone so far and a complete transition to the European single currency has not yet taken place. The image of a lion on Bulgarian currency appeared in the 13th century. The first currency, called the “lion,” emerged in Bulgaria in 1879 and was in circulation in the country until 1952. The contemporary version appeared in 1999 after redenomination at a rate of 1000: 1.

The Ghanaian cedi (sign GH₵, code GHS) is the currency used in circulation in Ghana. The currency is not used outside the country. The Ghanaian cedi uses pesewa as change.

One cedi equals 100 pesewas. In 1965, the cedi became the sole currency in the country. Before that, Ghana had changed its currency several times. Since the country was a British colony, its territory allowed pounds sterling and later on, it was replaced with the West African pound. Afterwards, the Ghanaian pound took its place. All notes, except 50 cedi, depict portraits of the state’s politicians. The 50-cedi banknote portrays the cocoa fruit.
