Afghan afghani to Romanian Leu

Afghani (sign ؋, code AFN) is the currency of Afghanistan which is not used for payment in other countries. One afghani equals 100 pul coins. Afghani has been issued since 1926.

Originally, coins made only out of silver were used on the territory of the Islamic state. First notes were printed in 1935. The Afghan rupee had been used hand in hand with afghani until 1978. Up until 2002, there had been different types of afghani used in the country and issued by different military and political organizations: “davlati” and “dostumi”, but the new leader, Hamid Karzai, reformed the currency leaving only one type. Banknotes had architectural monuments, key industries and infrastructure depicted on them.

The Romanian leu (symbol: L, code: RON, number 946). One leu is subdivided into 100 bani. The banknotes bear the images of historical figures, writers, artists, buildings and tourist places.

The contemporary samples were introduced into circulation in 2005, following the revaluation at the exchange rate of 10 000 “old” lei for 1 “new” leu.
