Afghan afghani to Euro

Afghani (sign ؋, code AFN) is the currency of Afghanistan which is not used for payment in other countries. One afghani equals 100 pul coins. Afghani has been issued since 1926.

Originally, coins made only out of silver were used on the territory of the Islamic state. First notes were printed in 1935. The Afghan rupee had been used hand in hand with afghani until 1978. Up until 2002, there had been different types of afghani used in the country and issued by different military and political organizations: “davlati” and “dostumi”, but the new leader, Hamid Karzai, reformed the currency leaving only one type. Banknotes had architectural monuments, key industries and infrastructure depicted on them.

The euro (sign: €, code: EUR, number: 978) is the official currency of the Eurozone. Presently, the Eurozone comprises 19 EU states and several non-EU microstates and special territories, such as the Vatican or the Republic of Kosovo. The euro has replaced the former accounting currency European Currency Unit (ECU).

The non-cash form of the euro currency came into existence in 1999. Physical euro banknotes and coins entered into circulation in 2002. The European currency is second in international interbank turnover, succumbing only to the US dollar.
