Afghan afghani to Cape Verdean Escudo

Afghani (sign ؋, code AFN) is the currency of Afghanistan which is not used for payment in other countries. One afghani equals 100 pul coins. Afghani has been issued since 1926.

Originally, coins made only out of silver were used on the territory of the Islamic state. First notes were printed in 1935. The Afghan rupee had been used hand in hand with afghani until 1978. Up until 2002, there had been different types of afghani used in the country and issued by different military and political organizations: “davlati” and “dostumi”, but the new leader, Hamid Karzai, reformed the currency leaving only one type. Banknotes had architectural monuments, key industries and infrastructure depicted on them.

The Cape Verdean escudo (sign Esc, code CVE) is the official currency issued and spread on the territory of Cape Verde. Previously, one escudo could be subdivided into 100 centavos. Since 1994, 1 escudo has become the smallest coin of the country.

CVE was established as a national currency in 1914. Afterwards, the banknotes have been re-issued several times. The latest series was issued in 2014. The 100 escudo coin is of great interest. It is a decagon made out of a metallic alloy, embellished with representatives of local flora and fauna.
