Iranian Rial to Afghan afghani

The Iranian rial (sign ﷼, code IRR) is a currency used first in Persia, and currently, after the state name change, in Iran. Dinars are used as change for the Iranian rial. Every IRR equals 100 dinars.

However, due to inflation, dinars are practically not used in cash payment. The currency has been issued twice. First time was in 1798, and in their present form – in 1932. The front side of all notes have a portrait of a religious figure – Imam Khomeini, the leader of the Islamic revolution that took place in 1979, in Iran.

Afghani (sign ؋, code AFN) is the currency of Afghanistan which is not used for payment in other countries. One afghani equals 100 pul coins. Afghani has been issued since 1926.

Originally, coins made only out of silver were used on the territory of the Islamic state. First notes were printed in 1935. The Afghan rupee had been used hand in hand with afghani until 1978. Up until 2002, there had been different types of afghani used in the country and issued by different military and political organizations: “davlati” and “dostumi”, but the new leader, Hamid Karzai, reformed the currency leaving only one type. Banknotes had architectural monuments, key industries and infrastructure depicted on them.
