South African Rand to Cuban convertible peso

The South African rand (sign: R, code: ZAR, number: 710) or rand is the currency used in South Africa, Lesotho and Namibia. It Has been issued since 1961, when the state ceased to be part of the British Commonwealth, upon gaining independence. One rand is divided into 100 cents.

In 2004, rand has been incorporated into the CLS system as one of the international clearing currencies. The name is derived from the abbreviation of the name of the Mountain range Witwatersrand. The word "rand" came into use from the Afrikaans language, but has been modified to be pronounced in an English manner.

The Cuban convertible peso (sign $, code CUC) is one of the two currencies used in Cuba. The name has become a reason for an unofficial name of the currency. It is often called cuc.

One peso can be exchanged for 100 centavos. The convertible peso has first been introduced in Cuba in 1994 to allow for an easier payment process for tourists and diplomats within the country. The introduction of the convertible peso as a second currency has led to an increase in fraud directed at foreign citizens. Since 2013, Cuba has started to gradually decrease the use of this currency, turning to the regular Cuban peso.
