Kyrgyzstani Som to Afghan afghani

The Kyrgyz som (sign с, code KGS) is the national currency of the Kyrgyz Republic. Tyins are coins used for the Kyrgyz som exchange. Every KGS has 100 tyins.

The currency was introduced in 1993 after the dissolution of the USSR. The Soviet ruble was used before. The Russian ruble was also in use for some time. Notes have iconic political figures, poets are writers, famous composers depicted on them. From time to time, the state issues commemorative notes with an original vertical design.

Afghani (sign ؋, code AFN) is the currency of Afghanistan which is not used for payment in other countries. One afghani equals 100 pul coins. Afghani has been issued since 1926.

Originally, coins made only out of silver were used on the territory of the Islamic state. First notes were printed in 1935. The Afghan rupee had been used hand in hand with afghani until 1978. Up until 2002, there had been different types of afghani used in the country and issued by different military and political organizations: “davlati” and “dostumi”, but the new leader, Hamid Karzai, reformed the currency leaving only one type. Banknotes had architectural monuments, key industries and infrastructure depicted on them.
