Indian Rupee to Afghan afghani

The Indian rupee (international symbol s:₹ , Re, Rs (plural), code: INR, number: 356) is the currency used not only in India, but also in the neighboring Bhutan. 1 rupee is divided into 100 paisa. The name rupee for local currency has been in use since the 16th century.

For a long time there were several types of currency units operating in the country. A single rupee throughout the country was introduced in 1835 at the time when India was a colony of Great Britain.

Afghani (sign ؋, code AFN) is the currency of Afghanistan which is not used for payment in other countries. One afghani equals 100 pul coins. Afghani has been issued since 1926.

Originally, coins made only out of silver were used on the territory of the Islamic state. First notes were printed in 1935. The Afghan rupee had been used hand in hand with afghani until 1978. Up until 2002, there had been different types of afghani used in the country and issued by different military and political organizations: “davlati” and “dostumi”, but the new leader, Hamid Karzai, reformed the currency leaving only one type. Banknotes had architectural monuments, key industries and infrastructure depicted on them.
