Chilean Peso to Cuban Peso

The Chilean peso (sign $, code CLP) is the national currency issued and spread only in Chile. The Chilean peso can be changed into coins named centavo. Every CLP has 100 centavos.

The currency had appeared in circulation in 1817, but was later replaced with escudo. However, the Chilean peso has been issued again. Today, both currencies are used at the same time. In 2008, the state mint has issued 50 commemorative coins with a misspelling of the country’s name. Some of these coins were sold at auction. Having a face value of 50 peso, their price could go up to 20 thousand peso. This nuisance led to the fact that the head of the mint was fired.

The Cuban peso (sign $MN, code CUP) is the national currency of Cuba used along with the convertible peso. One peso can be exchanged for 100 small coins – centavos. The currency has first been issued in 1857.

Before that, the country used the Spanish real for payment. In tourism, the country still uses another currency, which is the convertible Cuban peso. However, recently it has become possible to pay with American dollars in shops and hotels. The government is planning to completely remove the convertible currency and only leave CUP.
