Bermudian dollar to Japanese Yen

The Islands of Bermuda are part of the Great Britain territory, although they are located far away from the main United Kingdom’s territory. Here, there is a separate currency called the Bermudian dollar (sign BD$, code BMD). The Bermudian cents are used as change for BMD.

There are coins worth 10 and 50 cents that are issued as of today. The $ currency has been issued since 1970 replacing the Bermudian pound. Commemorative coins are of special interest for numismatists. So-called “Bermuda triangles” have a corresponding shape, but are made out of different alloys and have different denomination.

The Japanese yen (international symbol: ¥, code: JPY, number 392) is the national currency of Japan and is in issuance continuously since 1871. The yen is on the list of world reserve currencies and used in the IMF system. Yen derives from the Japanese word “en”, meaning "round" it is also close to the Chinese "yuan".

One yen is subdivided into 100 “sen”. However, coins in denominations of less than one yen became invalid in the middle of the 20th century. Today “sen” can only be used in the format of mathematical calculations. The banknotes depict the intellectual elite of Japan, and not political figures.
