Argentine Peso to Chilean Peso

The Argentine peso (sign $, code ARS) is the currency used for payment within Argentina. The coins are called centavo. One peso equals 100 centavo.

It has been in circulation since 1992 when the old currency – austral – had been removed. Banknotes are designed with portraits of outstanding statesmen. 10 peso has an image of General Manuel Belgrano, and the 100 peso note has one of the first ladies of Argentina, Eva Perón. There are notes dedicated to the environment and fauna protection: with a jaguar, a blue whale, and the Falkland Islands.

The Chilean peso (sign $, code CLP) is the national currency issued and spread only in Chile. The Chilean peso can be changed into coins named centavo. Every CLP has 100 centavos.

The currency had appeared in circulation in 1817, but was later replaced with escudo. However, the Chilean peso has been issued again. Today, both currencies are used at the same time. In 2008, the state mint has issued 50 commemorative coins with a misspelling of the country’s name. Some of these coins were sold at auction. Having a face value of 50 peso, their price could go up to 20 thousand peso. This nuisance led to the fact that the head of the mint was fired.
