Albanian lek to Afghan afghani

The Albanian lek (sign L, code ALL) is the currency used in Albania. It has been issued in 1947 after a monetary reform. Up until 1990, lek could be subdivided into 100 qindarka.

Today, the smallest unit is 1 lek. Before the appearance of lek, there had been several currencies from different European countries used in Albania. Banknotes have portraits of different famous figures, and architectural objects of various eras printed on them. The name Lek comes from contracting the name of Alexander the Great.

Afghani (sign ؋, code AFN) is the currency of Afghanistan which is not used for payment in other countries. One afghani equals 100 pul coins. Afghani has been issued since 1926.

Originally, coins made only out of silver were used on the territory of the Islamic state. First notes were printed in 1935. The Afghan rupee had been used hand in hand with afghani until 1978. Up until 2002, there had been different types of afghani used in the country and issued by different military and political organizations: “davlati” and “dostumi”, but the new leader, Hamid Karzai, reformed the currency leaving only one type. Banknotes had architectural monuments, key industries and infrastructure depicted on them.
